  • Garden Tool Storage, is a Garden Tool Storage Rack the answer to your mess ?  By : Wendy Mundy A
Garden shovels, rakes etc. lying all over shed can be a big problem faced by lots gardeners. True but we are not all organization freaks like some people (I won't tell).
Having many Garden tools isn't a bad thing, but when they are hard to get at gardening becomes hard work not a pleassure, not to mention getting hit on the noggen by a shovel can really take the amusment out of gardening. Storing of garden tools can be a source of concern, but there are several solutions to looking after your garden tools with some sort of garden tool racking system, whether it's an umberlla or wall mounted. Now to stop those garden tools from becoming a everyday problem themselves is the question.

How can this problem be dealt with?

How can you organize your garden tools? Well there are as many ideas to organize your garden tools as there are garden tools, sorry to say. The idea is to choose the Garden Tool Rack that fits your needs and the location you have to work with.

Shed - Garage - Cupboard - free standing rack? There are other important things to decide too, like when to take care with cumbersome garden tools or very sharp tools. I hope to cover and talk about many of the options here.

The advantages of storing your garden tools properly are simple; ease of access, save time searching for them, and longer garden tool life.

Options: Peg Board - Pre-Formed Metal Racks

Hanging Garden Tools - Most small hand garden tools have holes in the handles to make hanging easier. A good idea for most of your hand held garden tools is to consider a wall mounted garden tool rack system made from peg board, with hooks or a metal garden tool rack that has lots of hooks. Most large garden tools can still be hung up, in the case of rakes for examlpe they can be turned upside down and hung from the business end or you can stand shovels up. Don't over look your garden hoses and extension cords, a hose reel is idea for this and prevents knots too.

Garden Tool Shelving/Basket Racks - Face facts not all Garden Tools where made to be hung up. Whether too big to hang, to dangerous (chainsaws) or they come with lots of attachmentsin kits. Garden Tools like these are best organized on shelves or in basket racks that you place on the wall of your garden tool shed or garage. If it's not possible to have a wall mounted racking system for your garden tools, then when picking a free standing garden tool rack see it has baskets. Fact is a free standing garden tool rack won't handle some heavy tool like chain saws, weed trimmers but will manage most others.

Garden tool carts are also an idea. A garden tool cart is a great complement to any other storage method you chose. It can provide extra storage space for your garden tools, as well as make relocating your gaarden tools to the garden faster, some even have a bench feature to allow you to sit on the garden tool cart taking some of the pain out of gardening for older people. Look for solid constructions and good wheels that roll easily.

Places garden tools can be keep:

Sheds and Garages are the most common location to store your garden tools but not eveyone has this choice. Lots people live in apartments or in flats, so what do they do? For apartment/flat/condo gardening a smaller wall mounted garden tool rack or a free standing garden tool system that will fit on their deck tucked into a corner may be the best idea .

A tool shed - Is a small building built just to organize your garden tools. Most gardeners don't need one, but if they are lucky enough to have one or the space for one great.
They can be expensive, but they do come in many sizes, from something that tucks up against the house or a stand alone shed that will accomedate large items like lawn mowers and snow blowers. You can use any of the above methods to look after your garden tools in a shed. You can select from a wide range of metal, polyvinyl or wood storage sheds, keep your budget in mind and you can also look for second hand sheds also.

    Ideas on garden tool storage:

-- Sorry but here's those nasty words again Be Tidy. Get in the habit of not just throwing your garden tools into your garage or tool shed when you are done with using them. Take time to put store them properly and this way you will be able to find them again. Plus it makes things in general safer for everyone.

-- Inventory the Garden tools you own, keep a small note pad with a list, it need not be fancy. Why waste money buying a duplicate garden tool because it is lost in the shadowy depths of the gargage A list is also a good place to write down any garden tools that you lend out, insuring you know where they are and increasing the chances of getting them back.

-- You should maintaine your garden tools before you put them away, have a stiff brush at hand so you can swipe them off. This will keep things tidier and extend the life of both the garden tools and your garden tool rack.

-- If you need to use a tool often during a particular period in the garden season, don't store them in the innermost part of your shed. Keep them handy.

-- Keep a file handy to sharpen your shovels and to file off any rough edges that may develope.
